Hello Homesteaders!
We are starting this to allow our patrons and fans to keep up to date with happenings on the Ranch! We also plan to start some Vlogs on YouTube of our projects as we get them going. Follow our offgrid homestead journey and give us some support along the way!
So… where are we now? We are in Texas still helping Heather’s mother with her property. To date the property has been cleaned up and is mostly useable at this point, that was a fun task. Three commercial dumpsters of trash removed, two cords of overgrown oak wood cleared and stacked, new house build in progress, new septic leech field installed, and fence repairs are ever in progress.
New house? Yes. We originally planned to refurbish the original trailer, however… upon further inspection during her closet remodel we found the studs were all rotting to the point of being unsavable. After looking at the options she decided she wanted us to build her a house, compatible in size to her trailer, using portable cabins. The plan is to use two 12′ x 24′ cabins set 12′ apart as the base for the house, build in between the two cabins to connect them and give more space with an 12′ x 10′ bathroom built on. Currently we have the cabins set, the interior rafters hung for stability, the bathroom frame is up awaiting exterior boarding and final roofing, center platform has been built in, roof trusses to bridge between the cabins are built awaiting install, everything has been water sealed.. and lots more to do. Our next focus is getting the roof trusses up so we can move forward.

What about Arizona? We will get there, preparations are in progress as some things are simply cheaper or easier to acquire while we are near Dallas. We had a new, though small, cabin set on our Ranch along with a 20′ shipping container. Baby steps lovelies, baby steps. Costco had 8kw trifuel generators on sale for $750, big score for us! Having a reliable backup generator is key and essential.

The livestock are all ready for the cooler months with less flies to bother them. We didn’t get the little rams bibbed before our girls cycled so we could be looking at some early lambs. When Trixie goes into heat this time we will allow Khan to breed her for early winter puppies. Fingers crossed for good pregnancies and healthy babies for all.
Come back next month for more updates!
